The All Things Bike Show, in conjunction with ER24 and Road Rangers, will be organising a charity bike run in aid of The New Jerusalem children’s home. The event will start and finish at Gallagher Convention Centre on Sunday 19 February 2012.

Registration for the event starts at 07h00 and the ride begins at 08h00. The route will comprise of a 93 km round-trip from Gallagher. All bikers are welcome at this event, with the purpose of improving the lives of the children at The New Jerusalem Home. More than 35 marshals will be on hand to assist the run and to ensure that it runs smoothly. The registration fee will be R50pp and this will include a cup of coffee, an ATB pin and entrance into the show after the ride. The proceeds of the run will go to the New Jerusalem Children’s Home.

The All Things Bike Show will be hosted from the 17 to 19 February 2012 in partnership with the Beeld Holiday Show. Media partners to ATB include Superbike Magazine, Woema, and publicist Daryl Peel. The aim of the ER24 Road Rangers is to render a service acceptable to the cycling and motorcycling community of South Africa to ensure road safety at these events. The New Jerusalem Home is located in President Park in Midrand and looks after 80 children from multiple backgrounds. The home has seen large amounts of development since its opening in 2000 and is in the process of establishing a pre-primary school that will educate children from the community and The New Jerusalem Home.

Charles Wilson, GM – Operations at Gallagher Convention Centre says “The charity run for the children of the New Jerusalem Home provides us with the opportunity to give back to our community. By bringing bikers from all over the Gauteng province and possibly even from other provinces, we can make a difference to the lives of these children.

The Portuguese led the four round series coming into the hot and testing terrain and completed an emphatic 100% podium record for the 2011 campaign to lift his first FIM title.

Rodrigues had finished as runner-up in Abu Dhabi, emerged victorious from the round in Tunisia and then was third in Sardinia to head to the Middle East with an excellent chance of securing the honours. He started the competition not wanting to test fate but soon settled into a rhythm and through the six stages eventually managed to conquer three of them to classify behind Marc Coma. Helder was pronounced Portugal’s very first champion of the discipline.

“More than ever I wanted to race without taking any risks and happily I was able to come through the six stages problem-free,” he said. “I worked so hard to try and reach the top and this title is a fantastic reward and now we have a new challenge to improve our classification at the Dakar.”

Incidentally Yamaha dominated the Quad class in Egypt with four riders claiming the six stages and filling the overall top six of the final standings. Camelia Liparoti was third to become FIM Women’s World Champion for the third year in a row.

Rodrigues can now fully focus on the 2012 Dakar rally, beginning once again in South America in the first days of January. The new FIM number one will be aiming to better his third place from this year’s edition of arguably the toughest race in the world.

Northern Regions Motorcycle Circuit Racing and Full Throttle are delighted to announce the confirmation of a sponsorship deal for 2012. Full Throttle will be the headline sponsor and the hugely popular Northern Regions motorcycle circuit racing series will be rebranded as Full Throttle Motorcycle Circuit Racing (presented by Northern Regions Racing).

“Motorcycle circuit racing in the Northern Regions is thriving and we salute and welcome Full Throttle as the championship title sponsor for 2012. Full Throttle’s support will be invaluable in further growing the racing and creating tomorrow’s champions”, said Adrian Scholtz, Motorsport South Africa’s Motorcycle Racing Commission President.

Sean Rosenberg, CEO of Full Throttle, says: “It gives us great pleasure to support and give back to the very fraternities that helped us become Africa’s biggest motorcycle accessory chain store. I feel it is our responsibility to encourage growth and development throughout all facets of motorcycling. Over the past four years we have supported Motocross, Enduro, Supermoto, club racing and fun days. We are now incredibly excited to be involved with the Regional Motorcycle Circuit Championship and I really hope to do our part in growing it from strength to strength.”

In terms of Full Throttle’s commitment to Northern Regions Motorcycle Circuit Racing, the regional championship series will receive television coverage.

Christo Reeders, Chairman of the Northern Regions Sub Committee for motorcycle circuit racing (NRSC), says the generous sponsorship will make it possible for the NRSC to reduce the cost of racing in a climate where all other costs are increasing. “We anticipate being able to offer two day’s racing in 2012 for under a thousand rand, apart from further reducing second entries from families.

The Full Throttle sponsorship is an endorsement of the positive direction in which Northern Regions racing has developed during the past few years and its associated marketability. We look forward to developing the relationship with Full Throttle to enhance their public exposure as the premier provider of racing- and rider apparel in return for the confidence which they have placed in Northern Regions motorcycle racing. The synergy is self-evident and we believe that this partnership will further serve to develop the initiative as the premier motorcycle circuit racing showcase.”

In keeping with MSA Board of Directors directives to grow spectator interest, the marketing teams of Full Throttle and the NRSC have plans and initiatives moving into 2012 which they believe will directly increase spectator awareness, interest and participation at circuit racing events.

Ryan Shaprio, Marketing and Racing Division Manager of Full Throttle says: “It has been an absolute privilege working with all the riders and getting to know the many families, organisers and venue owners involved in racing. Our goals have been to develop long-standing relationships with them all and to better serve the fraternities and our customers. We hope to achieve a mutually beneficial scenario where we support each other reaching new heights”.

Christo Reeders says 2012 and the partnering with Full Throttle is going to be a watershed year with increased sponsorship and exposure. “We look forward to full grids, great strides in the development of our youth and greater spectator interest.”

A thrilling days racing had the country’s very best MX racers pitting their skills against each other in their individual quests for championship glory, and at the end of the day, Yamaha pilots Dirco van der Westhuizen, Roger-Dean Bergstrom and Richard van der Westhuizen, came home proudly proclaimed as 2011 South African National MX Champions!!!

Ekerold Yamaha’s Dirco van der Westhuizen (no relation to Richard) piloted his Yamaha YZ 85 to a victory and a second place in the two heats of the day, affirming his and his Yamaha’s season long domination of the 85cc Junior class, and thereby clinching the 2011 National Championship. In fact, so complete was Dirco’s domination that he won ten of the twelve heats of the championship, with only one second place and one third place completing his season. Championship runner up in the 85cc Junior class went to Shimwells Yamaha’s Justin Thompson (YZ 85). The diminutive Thompson, in his first year in this class, proved that he is a star of the future by pitting his young (for the class age limits) skills against older adversaries and coming out of the season in a very credible second place in the National Championship. Thompson also won the very last heat of the season, sending out a very strong message to his competitors about his commitment to achieving the 2012 85cc Junior National Championship.

After a season long domination of the premier MX1 class, former multiple National Champion Richard van der Westhuizen (Mr Price Full Throttle Yamaha) clinched his ninth South African National Championship in fine style by piloting his awesome Yamaha YZ 450 F to a consistent fourth and second in the two heats of the day. Richie proved his and his YZ 450 F’s competitiveness by taking five of the six overall victories with six heat wins and four second place finishes.

In a season long battle with Kerim Fitzgerald (KTM) in the MX2 class, Richie just missed out on doing the double and brought his Mr Price Full Throttle Yamaha YZ 250 home in second place in that championship.

Defending MX3 class Champion, Roger-Dean Bergstrom once again piloted his Yamaha YZ 450 F to the MX3 class championship by taking nine heat victories, two second places and one DNF in the season.

Yamaha wish to congratulate their National Champions on their sterling efforts. Once again, the race craft and reliability of Yamaha race machines have been proven on the race track.

Taking place at Timour Hall Villa in Plumstead on Saturday 8 October 2011. Entries are still being accepted for both general vehicle display and the concourse and contact details for any interested parties are on the attached release.

INK & IRON is the premier show of its kind in South Africa.
This is an event that highlights and celebrates the dedication and attention to detail of incredible artists producing eyecatching and awe inspiring artwork on skin and metal.

The event was the vision of creator and founder Grant McNicol who sold his magazine “Biker Lifestyle” in 2002. However, his passion for bikes, tattoo’s and hot rods wasn’t limited to his involvement in the media industry, and utilising his extensive contacts, he began to work on providing a platform for all his passions to come together and get positive exposure not only within the biking and tattoo community, but also within the mainstream community and it was through his hard work that Ink & Iron SA launched in Johannesburg in 2004. The show was well received and supported and it has run with ever increasing success for the past 8 years. Finally, after numerous requests from the biking and tattoo community in the Western Cape, the show made its way to Cape Town in 2010, followed in July 2011 with the first ever Ink & Iron Show to be held in KZN!

The success of these events is due to the overwhelmingly positive response and support from petrol-heads and ink lovers countrywide who have lobbied to expand the show beyond its original city and taken us to ever greater National heights. The show aims to provide all of you petrol-heads and ink lovers with an opportunity to not only display your art and mechanical creations to an appreciative audience, but also to enter them into the competition with the chance of walking away with one of the coveted Ink & Iron trophies.

Ink & Iron runs like a well-oiled machine, but only with the help of Grant’s wife Laureen, Gary and Michelle Fulton – the Cape Town Show managers, Steve Knapp – Chief Tattoo Judge, “Butch” Powrie (Chosen Few MC Jo’burg) – Head Concourse Judge and Duncan & Dennis (Head Hunters MC Jo’burg).

This show is a fantastic opportunity for anyone to either enter their bikes, hot rods or tattoos in the competition or simply get some fabulous new ink done.

BE THERE to see the great work being produced on skin and steel at the Ink & Iron Show!!

The countdown to Africa’s biggest biking event from 17 to 19 February 2012, ‘All Things Bike’ (ATB), started with the official launch on 26 August at Gallagher Convention Centre. It will also be the venue of choice beyond 2012 for this annual event. ‘ATB’ will be hosted concurrently with the annual Beeld Holiday Show, which attracted 10,000 visitors at the first show in 2006, growing to a potential of 25 000 to 35 000 visitors in 2011.

Gallagher GM Operations Charles Wilson, says that ATB is not affiliated to any association and does not compete with any other biking show: “ATB is a Gallagher invention and we create our own dynamics as the market is big enough to accommodate different shows for bikers. However, our differentiation strategy is that we have a strong relationship with media partners and our collective investment in terms of marketing and publicity, between now and February 2012 will be maximized in terms of input costs and value of exposure. With February still falling in the rainy season, our venue allows for extensive indoor displays, secure parking and an exciting environment fit for leisure seekers and biking enthusiasts. ”

During the launch event, Hampie de Kock, organiser of the Beeld Holiday Show, said that biking is very much part of the 2012 show motto of ‘Plan Your Break’ or ‘Breek Reg Weg’. “Bikers are no longer exclusive to any specific level in the LSM (Living Standards Measurement) grading, which is partly due to the impact of a negative economy and the consequence of the cost of transport and unpredictable congestion patterns. This may result in the biking industry to quadruple in the foreseeable future, which may also be fuelled by expenditure on high-end products, as biking enjoys its own unique culture.”

De Kock confirmed that the ‘Beeld Holiday Show’ and ‘All Things Bike’ combined will be the largest leisure and biking exhibition ever to be hosted in the country. “There will be displays in four of the Gallagher exhibition halls. Suppliers of bikes and accessories have a real cost effective opportunity to display their products and merchandise. For a mere R50 entrance fee, visitors will enjoy value for their money. Exhibitors at the Beeld Holiday Show, which created in excess of R140 million in sales opportunities at the 2011 event, will extend from camping equipment, water craft, trailers and motor homes to tour operators, thus introducing additional sales opportunities for ATB exhibitors through visitors to the Beeld show. Together with Gallagher we have put in place an extensive marketing programme including billboards, print and radio advertising, street pole advertising and other event-specific promotions.”

Further announcements about the entertainment during the show will be made closer to the time, although an arrangement is in place with the ATKV (Afrikaanse Taal en Kultuur Vereniging) for bilingual entertainment by some of the country’s well known artists. There will be many additional attractions, including a Harley Davidson motorcycle to be won by any visitor, sponsored by Gallagher.
